One Stop Poetry: Picture Prompt Challenge (Holiday Edition)

Take the Holiday Poetry Challenge!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend! Due to the hectic nature of this time of year, One Shoot Sunday will return next week in its entirety with what promises to be another spectacular interview by Chris G. It will also include a picture prompt challenge inspired by a photo from a professional photographer.

For this week's abridged version, I offer an image I shot a couple of days ago in New York City. The scene is part of Rockefeller Center, home to the world famous Christmas tree and ice skating rink. Without revealing additional information to influence your writing, let us see what you come up with using this festive image as a prompt! As always, make sure you enjoy the creative process. Have fun with it :)

Rules:
Write a poem (or Flash Fiction 55) based on the prompt.
Then post your creation on your site.
Sign up using Mr. Linky so people can find your work.
Let us know what you are sharing by leaving a comment below.
Finally, please visit other participants & comment on their posts.

Thank you,
dustus

Challenge Time!

Hi Everybody. Today we have a festive photo that leaves plenty of room for artistic interpretation... I find part of the fun each Sunday is reading all the inspiring takes on the prompt. Hope you'll give the challenge a try and share your post with us. Cheers :)

Adam - I studied that photo for some time. That photo is perfectly divided in half, the division evoking all kinds of thoughts and directions. Great One Shot! (And sorry for the comment removal)

It's a marvelous shot, Adam. But I'm so sick of festive. Now I really have a challenge to come up with something gloomy out of this!

Ha!...love the comments. the picture too a minute but then...
Merry Christmas Dustus.

Thank you for the challenge. It is a fantastic picture. I have to admit that the music part stuck, but I did not grab on to the holiday part. I suppose mine is half-baked. :-(

curious with what the people will come up..

stillfugue, yours was certainly not "half baked." i thought it was very good.

This pic reminded me of a very specific moment in NYC when I was a teenager and terribly far from home. Strange memories I hadn't entertained in a long while.

Great prompt.

Thanks, Adam! What a festive image this is. Great prompt for me who was once there in NY during the holidays and lived through it. I hope this works.

Forgot to leave a comment. For some reason this pic made me think of that aspect of NYC or any large city that's made up of desperation and dirt, being swept up and remade into something sparkly, but only partially successful at dispelling that feel.

I'm as always totally amazed by what people bring to a prompt like this, and I've enjoyed the whole batch I've read so far. I'm on my way to Alegria's place next.

beautiful photo-- stretching the challenge a bit to link to a piece I wrote yesterday when the light caught the eye of a pottery fish I have, as I was listening to the Festival of Lessons and Carols. A blessed season to all! xxxJenne'

My wonderful comment went
Other than where it was sent
Believe me, it was so nice--
probably got tramped on the ice

In the city that never sleeps.

I also left out the 'holiday' aspect, my bad I guess. But thanks for the prompt, it was fun!

It would be worth a trip to NYC to see Claudia and Dustus race on the ice.

Thanks for the nice photo inspiration -- I'm hoping to start writing poetry more frequently in the new year and this was a great way to start.

Hi everyone! I'm new here. You never know where a photo will lead you, do you? Interesting prompt.
I wasn't going to open my blog until after the first of the year- I'm still learning the ropes.
But I figured this was as good a time as any, and I had fun with the prompt. Cheers! Dan
