I would write you a love song moon... a poem by Claudia Schönfeld

I love to read poems - and love listening to someone reading poems to me even more. (I do this sometimes with my daughters) - but if the poet him(or her)self reads his/her poems to me it makes my day!

Think how fantastic it were if we had a recording of Goethe, reading his "Erlking." Wouldn't that be great?

To hear someone reading aloud his own work, pronouncing and accentuating it the way he or she had it in mind when writing it - hearing the poet's voice - I think this is just amazing, even if it may not be perfect.
I have just watched some funny poetry readings and videos on You Tube and some of them are really weird, but still - the personality shines through - and it adds to the joy.

Every once and a while someone commented on my blog with the desire to have one poem or another  read, and for a long time I didn't want to because of my German accent - but yep, thought I would give it a try and maybe encourage some of you to try it as well...

~ Claudia

i would write you a love song moon...

if i didn’t know about your jagged bareness
i’d write you love song after love song and
love song after love song. but I know you're

not what the sun makes me think, hanging
like a dreamer in the sky, mesmerize my
highway morning with a soft-touch glow,

taking me ages from cold asphalt sheets
to warm, shimmering moon blankets. slim
golden figure, bowed slightly towards my still

bed-warm morning lips, enough to make me
wanna taste your smiling promises, forgetting
lightlessness and all that’s hidden deep beneath

sun’s warming and unveiling touch. darkness
throwing shades, hiding ice-cubed forts, clifted
frailty, muted soft-pale vessels, empty silence,

heavy burdens on bent shoulders. but all is seen
& felt is tender, splintered beauty, wooing gently
for my heart, stirring edgy tunes on husky lips &

if I didn’t know about your jagged bareness,
I’d write you love song after love song and
love song after love song, shouted madly

from the scaffolds of my hopes in every key,
I’m capable of playing

Oh Claudia -- this is stunning and your accent makes it even more evocative.

I spent many years living in Germany -- your voice takes me back to wonderful memories and people I miss and times that held such joy for me.

thank you my friend. Absolutely stunning!

This is a lovely presentation. Your accent is an asset, not a hindrance.

Have a nice day, Boonie

Aw, Claudia this is beautiful. Don't know what's wrong with my computer but videos and audios are not coming up. I'll get on a different computer to listen. I know I'll love your accent. (I lived in Germany for about 4 years.)

Claudia this was beautiful. I absolutely love your accent! Living in the states accents are the coolest thing to me. I loved your poem, it was so exquisite. I believe the reading enhanced it. That was the first time that I have ever heard a poem read out loud. I took four years of German in High School and loved it. Great contribution!

Oh you make me cry, and the novelty of your images expressing the undeniable love we touch and carry inside

the jagged bareness

someday I hope someone writes a love song for me!
smiling and crying,
Di

Don't fret about your German accent, Claudia... it's just how you talk, and I doubt anyone will fault you fir it. Nor should they, unless they speak flawless German AND English! (No, not even then!)

You might be interested in a Poetry Collection I picked up recently called "Poetry Speaks" (Expanded Edition) which comes with three CDs of the actual poets reading some of their poems.

(I'm pretty sure it's available on Amazon.com)

Normally I'm not a fan of spoken poetry,as people can get awfully carried away with themselves sometimes. But this was totally beautiful, you have a lovely voice for reading, and it was completely in tune with the soft wistful feeling of the poem. I enjoyed it very much. And your accent is very pleasant on the ear, adding a bit of personality and character to the piece. Thanks for the great start to my day.

I'm not much into praise due to my own jaggedness but this one deserves lots. Beautifully written and read.

I happen to be quite partial to the moon :)
She inspires so much romance and yet she is a barren wasteland

I agree with you, and we (your readers,) were /are very fortunate to hear you read...
...your poem "I would write you a love song moon."

Which is very beautiful and your beautiful melodious tone just added to the poem.
Thank-you, for sharing!
