Welcome to One Shot Wednesday. I'm Moondustwriter (aka Leslie Moon) hosting this round of poetry. We want each of you to feel welcome at One Stop Poetry. I'm thinking this week's poetry might have some unusual characteristics since Halloween is lurking. (come back this weekend I think the guys have a few things under their sleeves.) If you have been coming by regularly, can I encourage you to at least read the post before yours so that each person has at least one comment (this is especially true for late posts). If you are new, please comment and tell us who you are so we can welcome you properly.
Thanks to each of you for your wonderful writing and for inspiration each week.
Here is the format for those of you just starting
1. Write a poem
2. Come to One Shot Tuesday night or anytime Wednesday and put in the necessary information on Mr Linky. If Mr Linky is down you will need to put the URL in the comment box. The URL is the web page address of your poem
3. Leave a comment (we love to hear from you)
4. Take a few moments to read a poem or two and give some words of kindness. I personally like constructive criticism but if you do that keep it positive. We have poets of all levels. I know how much it means when the reader can give the poet some encouragement. Thanks all of you for always knowing the right thing to say.
Have a great One Shot Wednesday

welcome to oneshot everyone! lets get this party started!
Let us see what is on the minds of the peoples this week!
I can't resist posting another humorous one. Hope you all like it.
Just admitting who I'm jealous of... :)
Welcome to One Shot! Enjoy surfing on over to the sites of your fellow poets. Read them, consider their messages... take the work of your peers with respect in sharing a love of this art form. One Shot is a celebration of Poetry!
Thanks to all who link up, comment, and continue to make this poetry event worthwhile. Happy One Shot :)
I'm smiling widely after reading Daniel Jay's opening comment here, based on my entry it is easy to see whats on my mind.... xo
Cheers everyone, gonna pour some wine and enjoy the reading...
Hi guys, nice to be back. Again, this week I'm posting a poem I wrote sometime again for feedback. I'll keep putting some old ones up till I'm up to date.
Looking forward to reading some great poetry.
Cheers, Jean-Michel
Oh COME ON oneshot people! If you CAN'T handle the possibility of negative feedback, then DON'T set your blog to accept comments. I HATE wasting my effort on a careful read & critique, only to find that it's 'awaiting moderation.' Don't make me start posting my critiques on these threads, because I totally will.
That aside, there are some good efforts. Didn't comment on everything I read, but went through about a dozen sites. Hope to hit 50% of the sites this week (I'm stunned any of you can make your way through ALL the submissions, there's just so much).
Thanks for the multiple shots, One Shot Team!
Happy One Shot! Enjoy Week 17. About to begin surfing :)
Cheers
Thanks for this, I will read all the new shots from tomorrow.

Wow! Tuesday afternoon and we're already up to number 35 for Wednesday's One Shot?
I might have to start only reading the posts of people who read MY posts, because I don't know that I can keep up with everybody!
My piece, "The Meaning of Being Haitian", incorporates a Carry on Tuesday prompt and responds to a CNN blogpost that I found disturbing.
Looking forward to reading all these poems. So many already!
sure am happy to be part of one shot;)
hi and welcome all...and how many are here already!!! Thankyou my fair lady host for a wonderful One Shot Wednesday
I'm in. And I'd love some tea and scones, MDW. I'll be right over. ;-)
It´s my second one, and I have to say that I have enjoyed this much more (the first one, I was little nervous lol)
Thank you for this opportunity to share words.
Blessings
Soraya

"Starts well, has lots of potential, but doesn’t go anywhere.
Key question unanswered: how is it the narrator’s (‘my’) congregation? That possessive means something to you. Examine it."

"Hmm, the 1st arc of thought was effective (could use paring), but then the poem repeats itself. Actual scene would help imo. Keep the narrative glue tho--it's working."
KW...i highly recommend the book, how to win friends and influence people...

"Congratulations!
Unfortunately, the poem is nonsensical. It begins w/ platitude ruminations and the answer is God & baby! Sorry, not buying it."
I'm looking forward to reading some of your wonderful poems. I, also, am open to constructive critiques. Always looking to learn! I'll do my best to visit as many of you as possible and to return all visits to my blog.
Thanks, Victoria Ceretto-Slotto
Thanks Brian, but I'm not out to 'win friends & influence people.' I'm out to read poetry. If I was looking for friends, I'd find another hobby for that.
Seriously.
Ok. I'll give it another shot.
Happy Halloween all.

BTW, someone keeps pestering me by e-mail w/ delusions of white-knightdom. The guy apparently can't discern a motive for why I'd 'out' pages that have moderate comments sections. It's pretty obvious: if my comment is solicited & I expend effort to respond, then moderation is simply an insult. It means, "I will only accept cloying responses." I am also boggled by the mercenary implication that one is supposed to 'win friends & influence people' around the pretext of poetry. Sorry your social life sucks dude--some people are actually serious about their verse. If you worry about negative comments, you shouldn't be soliciting them. And if you're worried about meanies reading your poetry, maybe you should exhibit a bit more craftsmanship w/ your verse. I don't mean this for most of the OSW I read--the vast majority of poems were competent & some were even good (tip of the hat to Steven Marty Grant)--but for those who receive criticism w/ visions of the critic in mind (instead of addressing what's on the page), you only hold yourselves back as writers by being hypersensitive to criticism.
Additional e-mails to me on this subject will solicit a less polite response from me.
In addition to Steven Marty Grant, I also liked Terresa Wellborn's poem & Anton Gourman's OS. Thanks all!
What a great experience! This is such a wonderful service to provide the writing community. I thoroughly enjoyed reading work from the other writers. I appreciate the comments people left. It's nice to know what works (or what doesn't work). You have some very talented poets posting @onestoppoetry . Thank you.
Looks like a busy one today! Looking forward to finding some great verse out there...after some sleep of course. Thanks for hosting another OSW!
This feels a lot like being Catholic and sitting down in the confessional. I haven't seriously written poetry in decades. I am returning to my love for writing prose andn poems with my first entry in One Shot Wednesday today. (I got in just under the wire. Darned West Coast time.)
Always...Thanks for letting me join in the fun. You guys are great :)
Great posts folks as always. I will return...

Hi Friends,
This is the first time I am taking part in One Shot Wednesday.
Hope you enjoy reading the poem as much as I did composing it.
Nice Day!
Shail
Perhaps my first participation here.. hope you will enjoy like the poem and perhaps fel tempted to visit more writings.. A good forum this for thoughtful people..
First time here! Looking forward to reading all the entries.
Loved my first OSW last week, comments were wonderful to receive and the talent on display was immense!
I'm in!
Guess I am a little late, just got off from the first day of my internship, another week of wonderful words journey!=D
Sending the last gift to everyone!
I can't wait to read some of the poems this week! And thanks for the opportunity to share.
Happy Halloween week!
nice. got my coffee and ready to read some more...some great stuff in the early rounds last night...
Hello, Moonie friend! :-)
I have been unable to visit you lately, or any Wordpress blog, as i keep getting an error message every time I try. I don't know what's wrong. They load and i can see them, then I get an error message and have to close. It's frustrating. :-(
17 weeks of one Shot! And so many participants, it's great.
Thanks for giving me a second shot! The air seemed to be a bit hostile today. Just as a heads-up, my comments are moderated, but not because I fear constructive criticism. I write poetry because I enjoy it, not because I want to impress someone.
MDW, I'm all in for scones and tea.
Happy Wednesday, Everyone!
Oh, this one brought back so many memories of Halloween.
Thanks!
Wysteria
Melissa, you have every right to moderate your comments. There are any number of reasons to do so, and it's any blogger's choice to do as they wish with their own blog.
There are always lots of wonderful people here at One Shot. I'm glad you're here. :-)
PS--as for tea, that's always a wonderful idea. :-)
I just wrote this today, hope you all like it~!
Linked to my Halloween flavored poem, but here is my just plain blog link: http://versiscape-lifesentences.blogspot.com/ I've only read a few authors so far but I'm amazed at the gifts on display and grateful to be exposed to them. Thanks for the site and the people on it.
It's the season for falling leaves and blustery days. We have both here today.
Morning all. Bri hope you saved me some coffee. If others suffer from the Wordpress blogger conflict we are sorry.
Hope you are enjoying this week. I just hired a ghost reader lol

For something a little eerie, a little scary...
Nightscape on Skylover
Happy Halloween to all 0_o
I like what I see but I'm a little confused about the submission process. (First time)
The poem is 'home is where i had never been' on my blog but there are others on the page as well. Do I need to identify the title somehow?
Okay, I am going to read and comment now...thanks!
Ok, I gave it a shot! :D
